Music examination is extremely popular in India. There are two types of examination boards, one set serves western music and the other serves Indian music. There are a few examination boards that only offer online music examination. But there is only one board, Musicea Arts and Culture Council, that offer examination for both Indian and Western subjects along with offering physical and online music examination. There are several advantages of online music examination. A candidate may appear for an examination from his home, music school, teacher’s studio or any place across the world. Sitting for an examination from a known place provide confidence. The candidate also saves travel time and money to the examination hall. Online music examination happens via Live streaming, recorded video or both. There is an advantage of the recorded video too. The candidate may record several videos and send only the best performance recorded. Live streaming requires high-speed uninterrupted internet. This is a concern in many cities in India. For this progressive board like Music uniquely offers a candidate to select an examination using both the options. The Performance and Technical Exercise section is prerecorded and uploaded. The Musicianship and Musical Knowledge is via Live streaming. The feedback from teachers and candidates are impressive as they can select from a wide range of options. Till 2019, online study and examinations were ignored but the pandemic year of 2020 has changed the perceptions. Teachers and students have adapted fast with the situation. Music schools that had online class modules took the advantage of the situation and stayed ahead in terms of offerings and services. But many teachers and students took a lot of time to adjust. This caused a delay and waste of times. The lockdowns stopped physical classes and those who did not immediately switch to online mode lost lessons. Due to this, many teachers lost earnings. The old-fashioned music examinations boards lost examination sessions too.

The present and future are digital. Online music examination and online music classes will stay for many years until new technology arrives. This mode will increasingly become popular. Being cost-effective, the examination mode saves a lot of time and energy. The registration, examination and issue of certificates take much less time and inconvenience. Gone are the days when a candidate had to queue for registration. The old British examination boards in India mostly served with a bossy mindset. Mostly, they dictated terms and conditions. Many times, the concerns of the candidates and teachers were overlooked. The examination sessions were fixed and, in many cases, date and time were fixed by the board that did not suit the candidate. The experience for many was not as pleasant as in many cases they were not nicely treated and respected. Musicea Arts and Culture Council since inception has addressed all these issues with its policy of teachers and students first. This professional approach has also forced the big and fat bossy boards to change their approach. The post-Covid era will be more rewarding to teachers and candidates and they will have access to multiple options.
